Haymarket Square
Saturday, June 26, 2010

Continuing on the theme of Farmer's Markets the last few days, here is the original Boston Farmer's Market at Haymarket Square. Unlike the usually upscale offerings at Faneuil Hall Marketplace and the Copley Square Farmer's Market, Haymarket Square offers produce very cheaply. The market is open during daylight hours every Friday and Saturday.

I met this woman last month as she was painting near (but not) the George Washington statue. I didn't get her name, but she did tell me she exhibits in Provincetown on Cape Cod, and in Maine.

The Ancient and Honorable
Tuesday, June 8, 2010

The Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts conducted an exercise on the Boston Common yesterday afternoon, accompanied by other military units, past and present. The corner of Park and Tremont Streets was the staging area for the beginning of the parade.
This company was chartered in 1638 and was the first chartered military organization in the Western Hemisphere. The Ancient and honorable Artillery Company serves as Honor Guard to the Governor of Massachusetts, who serves as its Commander in Chief.
First Pose
Monday, June 7, 2010

I caught this pretty girl posing at the re-dedication of the Brewer Fountain last week. The water had just been turned on and the ribbons removed from around the fountain when she seized the opportunity to become the first to pose by the fountain (excluding the mayor, of course). Below you can see the scene as it actually occurred.
When Pigs Fly

One of the many vendors on the plaza at South Station earlier this week. And yes, that is the name of the bread company: When Pigs Fly. Their wonderful, old style breads are sold in many stores locally.
