Last Night at Symphony

Boston Symphony Orchestra and Tanglewood Festival Chorus with Daniele Gatti conductor, at the conclusion of the Verdi Requiem. Soprano Fiorenza Cedolins, soprano; Ekaterina Gubanova, mezzo-soprano; Stuart Neill, tenor; and Carlo Colombara, bass. Also on stage is John Oliver, conductor of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.

This week's program kicks off the BSO's celebration of the bicentennial of Giuseppe Verdi. 2013 is also the "Year of Italian Culture in the United States," showcasing the best of Italy - past, present and future - throughout the entire United States. More information about all the events can be found on their website: italyinus2013.org/

I'm just back from vacation and attended my first BSO concert of the season last night. I'll be posting some photos from my vacation in a couple of days.

Theme Day - Contrast

City Daily Photo Blog theme day this month is contrast. The contrast here is not only the light and the dark, but the new young conductor, Shi-Yeon Sung, filling in on very short notice for the injured James Levine at Symphony Hall Tuesday night.

Symphony Hall

On Thursday night I went to the Symphony and heard the Boston Symphony Orchestra perform Berlioz's Te Deum under the direction of Sir Colin Davis with tenor Matthew Polenzani, and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and the PALS Children's Chorus. The first half of the program was Piano Concerto No. 25 in C, K.503 by Mozart performed by English pianist Imogen Cooper.

The final performance of this program and the BSO's 2008-09 season is tonight at 8:00 pm (EDT). It was a magnificent way to end the season and with my new camera's fast lens I was able capture a few photos in the hall.
