Two Lions

Lions guarding interior stairways, Boston Public Library.

The Lion on the right sits atop a granite base inscribed with honors for the Twentieth Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, also known as the Harvard Regiment. The Lion on the left likewise honors the officers and men of the Second Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Both regiments were considered among the best in the Union Army and participated in almost all of the major battles and many of the smaller battles of the Civil War.

really lovely. I haven't been to that library in years and years. Strange I wouldn't remember such an incredible space.

The lions are quite striking, especially how they're placed in the stairwell. You'd think they'd be near the bottom of the stair, flanking it.

Such exquisite architecture in this grand library. And you've captured it well in this photo. I like that you have a person in the photo, coming up the stairs...that helps to see the scale of this amazing library. I've been trying to get to Boston for the past 2 years now, but something always comes up! One day.....and I must visit this library.
