Good summer reading for a hot July afternoon. What's on your reading list this summer?

I love this photo but then I love books. Am ashamed to say I've not read Stieg Larsson yet and everyone tells me i should - so I will. I'm currently reading Rose Tremain's latest - Trespass. I love her writing.

I've already read the three Stieg Larsson, and intend to see the movie. On my reading list:Arnildur Idridasson (for the icelandic freshness!), Rick Bass (for his winter in Montana) and Joseph Boyden (An Indian writing about Indians). I wish you a good reading!

Like the composition with the 'fire' next the iced water!

Read the first at your recommendation and enjoyed it but won't be reading the second or third. Right now reading Tracy Kidder's STRENGTH IN WHAT REMAINS.

Finishing up LAST NIGHT IN TWISTED RIVER. I like Irving.

Yes, I too have read all Larsson's books and lament his death, plus the tug of war going on within his family for the royalties garnered from his books. A sad legacy for a skillful weaver of tales. I read constantly and am now again revisiting many books, old and new, about one of my favorite cities, Paris. A collection of essays ed. by food critic, Ruth Reichl called "Rembrance of Things Paris" is an easy and delightful read.

Schopenhauer, "The World as Will and Representation" ... but maybe the weather is too hot ...
:-)

The photo is really magnificent!

That glass could be color coordinated with almost any book cover.

Your comment about summer reading is similar to a thought that I had the other day. I am down at one of our condos in Costa Rica, and there are now two bookshelves filled with books that people have left in one of the condos. It is a sample of what people take with them on vacation for beach reading. It is everything from political nonfiction to Harlequin Romances.

Love the photo-staying inside with a good book and an ice cold beverage is a great way to beat the heat!

I'm currently reading "Cakewalk", a memoir by Kate Moses.

His books are very popular here too. Another Swedish writer is Åsa Larsson. I have just finished reading a book by Muriel Barbery, in Norwegian it is called "Pinnsvinets eleganse"....

Obviously I have read Stieg Larsson's books. And I just finished what many people claim to be the next Swedish crime author to make it big outside of Sweden. It is called The Hypnotist. Written by Lars Kepler who is a pseudonym for a married couple called Ahndoril.

Summer time is garden time. I haven't any time in the moment to read a book. But Stieg Larsson's "Millennium Trilogy" is a good choice.

Looks like a nice place to read. Hee-hee -- I'm listening to the same book on CD. The reader Simon Vance is terrific. I listened to the book on our weekend drive to Mammoth (~5 hours up and 5 hours back). A real page turner (CD switcher??), isn't it?
