Falling Ice

One of the hazards of living or working in the city in winter is the risk of getting hit by falling ice. I don't remember seeing signs like this years ago. My guess is that lawyers must be telling building owners and managers to put out warning signs to limit their liability in case of any injuries. I wonder if anyone has been injured walking into, or tripping over, such a sign and sued the building for negligence?

That is kind a scary and very serious. We do not have freezing in that cold even in the peak of winter here. So, it's hard to imagine.
I love the shot.

If one doesn't get you the other one will.
Your guess is probably spot on.

We don't have falling ice signs in Vancouver but I saw plenty of them in Toronto and Chicago recently.

We mostly have "homemade" signs. But I see your point, and i guess if I saw something interesting on the other side, I (and the camera) could have banged straight in to the sign.
Your pavements are so clean, no snow left??

Haha. I think you've made a good point about the relative dangers: ice vs. sign.

I definitely don't remember ever seeing such a sign in the mid80s. Thanks for keeping us 'current'.

Maybe someone who was about to live to the country forgot it there?..Ü

I try to avoid walking in the center when the snow starts melting, it's too dangerous...

Working in Boston, I saw a woman moments after she was struck by falling ice off of the Government Center parking garage. She was fortunate that it was a glancing blow on the side of her face.
The next day there were warning signs place on the sidewalks around the garage.

There was a fatal accident in Stockholm a few years ago. A young boy died he was hit in the head by falling ice from a building. So it's probably a good thing to have a sign on the street.

A good idea, it could be quite dangerous.

I saw several of these same signs when I was in Chicago before Christmas! Not something you see around here much for sure.
