John Hancock

This is the headquarters of the John Hancock Insurance Co. in Boston. Their previous building was the 62 story tower in the Back Bay on Clarendon St. You can see the 62 story glass tower and the original Hancock building in this 2008 picture. Hancock sold the tower in 2004 and downsized to this new building on Congress St. in the Seaport District. More from the Boston Globe.

Filene's of Boston Building Site

View of the new 52 story building going up (with red crane) on the site of the original Filene's of Boston, as viewed from the Boston Common, June 18, 2015.

You can see a different perspective from one of my earlier posts of this building from February 2014.

Here is another view of the building site, when the old Filene's was being torn down, from April 12, 2008.

Keystone Building

Located on the banks of the Neponset River in Dorchester, the Keystone Building (~1910) was a piano factory and then a camera company. During WWII an aunt was employed in the building assembling munitions for the war effort. Today the building has been repurposed as an apartment building.

Filene's of Boston

The old Filene's department store in downtown Boston. The facade on the Summer St., designed by noted architect Daniel Burnham, was retained.

Panoramic view of the old building that was razed and is being built, literally, from the ground up.

Whimsical Monday

This is a section of the Stata Center at MIT. It is a must see if you ever visit the Boston area. You can see the front view from a post I did in June 2007. The building was designed by Frank Gehry; another Frank Gehry building can be found on Prague Daily Photo. Information on the MIT building can be found on MIT's website here.

New Addition at the Gardner Museum

Harriet this is for you. I promised to show you the new addition of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and here it is, finally. The first photo is a view of the new building from Evans Way. The photo below is a close up view of both the new and old building as seen from Palace Road.

For anyone interested, here is a link to the Gardner Museum website with more information and pictures of the new wing.
