Tea Party Museum

Boston Tea Party and Ships Museum. Scheduled to re-open June 2012. The museum will be located at Fort Point Channel in front of the Children's Museum. Note the giant milk bottle in front of the Children's Museum and Arthur the Aardvark on its roof in the upper left.

June Theme Day - Under Construction

Filene's

Site of the former Filene's Dept. Store in Downtown Crossing. Construction has halted and all that remains is a building facade and a big hole in the ground covering one city block.

Museum of Fine Arts

The front entrance to the Museum of Fine Arts on Huntington Avenue is closed while being renovated. In the background you can see the crane being used to build the new addition to the museum on Forsyth Avenue.

Sizing things up

New building going up on Canal Street is quite large and is a whole block long. This a partial view from the corner of Causeway and Canal Street. I was fortunate in catching the project manager and a construction worker sizing up the work so far.

Filene's Department Store

Site of the former Filene's Department Store in downtown Boston. Filene's was a Boston institution for almost a century and a quarter until it was merged out of existence by Federated Department Stores. Across the country, Federated replaced all of May Companies regional names, including Hecht's, Kaufmann's, and Strawbridge's, with Macy's. The former Filene's site is being renovated and converted into a mixed use development of luxury condominiums, retail stores, a 250 room hotel, and 600,000 square feet of offices.
