Yellow Roses

Yellow roses from the Rose Kennedy Memorial Garden. I had never visited this garden before. It has 103 rose bushes in honor of Rose Kennedy, one for each year of her life.

Rose Kennedy Greenway

It's hard to believe this area used to be the elevated expressway that cut through the heart of the city. After the highway was torn down and the road moved underground as part of the "Big Dig," the city reclaimed the land under and named it in honor of Rose Kennedy.

Here is another view from last December of the Greenway.

Rose Kennedy Greenway

The Rose Kennedy Greenway used to be part of the elevated expressway that cut through the heart of Boston. It has been removed and is now an open space making it easier to get to the North End and the waterfront. This swath of land is named after the matriarch of the Kennedy family, Rose Kennedy.

Southwest Corridor Park

Southwest Corridor Park was completed in the late 1980s. It is a 52-acre linear surface park with walking and biking trails, playing fields, and recreation facilities. The Park almost became the Southwest Expressway which was supposed to connect the center of Boston with the southwest suburbs and eventually extend to Providence. Luckily, community activism swayed a sympathetic governor to change the planned highway into an urban park. For more information click here.

Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park

Columbus Waterfront Park is located a short walk from the city's North End and is between Long Wharf and Atlantic Avenue. Great views of the harbor and a pleasant place to picnic.
